How we get our numbers

Every conversion factor on this site comes from a fixed definition, not from a guess.

Land: 1 acre = 43,560 sq ft; 1 cent = 1/100 acre (435.6 sq ft); 1 gunta = 1/40 acre (1,089 sq ft); 1 gajam = 9 sq ft; 1 sq m = 10.7639 sq ft. Gold: 1 sovereign = 8 g; 1 tola = 11.6638 g; 1 troy ounce = 31.1035 g. Construction: 1 brass = 100 cft; 1 m³ = 35.3147 cft.

Traditional terms that can vary by locality, such as the ankanam (taken as 72 sq ft), are labelled. Check them against your local land record.

Calculators use widely used standard assumptions (for example M20 concrete at 1:1.5:3 with a 1.54 dry-volume factor). Estimates are for planning, not for structural design.

Local units that differ by state, such as the bigha, will be added one state at a time, each with its source.
